Outside
All kids love to be outside, and we spend as much time in the back yard as the weather
permits.  I supply and apply sunscreen, and bug repellant if necessary. (There is a
Mosquito Magnet running in the warmer months, which does a wonderful job of
controlling the bugs MOST of the time).  The backyard is totally fenced in, and when
the children are outside, so am I.  Outside time is generally free play, the children
being able to "run free" and use up all that energy !!

Toys that usually stay outside include several ride on cars and trikes; a play washing
machine and drier; a workbench with tools; and numerous small toys which can be
played with outside.  The children also like to take out the dolls and strollers,
"stick" horses, and sidewalk chalk, to name just a few.

Sand and water play is a very popular outdoor activity.  We have a turtle shaped sandbox, and
also a sand and water table.  During the summer everyone enjoys water play, which is only ever
done under strict supervision.

As popular as the sand box is, though,  all ages find themselves drawn towards "the hole".
It's origins remain unclear, but over the years it never ceases to capture the imagination of
all who fall under its spell !!  If you want your child to remain spotlessly clean while at
daycare, please take them elsewhere !!

The main piece of play equipment is a Little Tikes 8 in 1 climber, which all ages enjoy.
There's room to climb, slide and crawl through a tunnel, as well as using the climber as a
house, a fort, a drive through - whatever sparks the imagination
.
All children have an inbuilt interest in their natural surroundings.  I
encourage them all to explore the yard, hide under the bushes, smell the
flowers, feel the trees, branches and leaves.  A bug, worm, or flower can
create the greatest of excitement and become a whole learning experience.
Squirrels in the trees and birds (and airplanes !) flying over can be too
fascinating for words !!  Life in the backyard is certainly an adventure.
