The Library
So called because this is where we spend time reading and being
read to.  I have an extensive library of children's books, which I
rotate in and out depending on the time of year.  There are always
seasonal books out, as well as those relating to the theme we are
working on, and of course some for just plain fun.  The children also
have access to a variety of magazines, catalogs and encyclopedias.

The younger children may make a mess
when exploring the books, but they learn
by example, and soon learn to treat all
books with the respect they deserve
.

Here the children are "lining up"
in the library, to go through to
the kitchen for snack.

By rotating books in and out throughout
the year, the children are able to enjoy
new books, as well as revisit old
favorites.  They also enjoy looking at
reference books, which add yet another
learning experience.
"File Folder Games" are another favorite library activity. They are just what they sound like -
home made games made out of ordinary file folders.  They mainly consist of matching games, where
the children match pictures cards - be it colors, shapes, letters, numbers etc - to the pictures in
the file folder.  This is something else where there's a wide variety of skill levels, so everyone can
participate.
